Scindia to inaugurate upgraded Tezu Airport on Sept 24

September 20, 2023: Minister for civil aviation and steel Jyotiraditya Scindia and Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu will inaugurate the newly upgraded Tezu Airport on September 24, 2023.

Tezu is a small town located on the banks of the Lohit River, Arunachal Pradesh. It is the headquarters of the Lohit district. The town is known for its scenic beauty, with lush green forests and rolling hills all around.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) undertook the development and upgrading work to operationalise the airport at the request of the state government. The works undertaken for Rs 170 crore include the extension of the runway (1500mx30m) and the construction of a new apron for ATR-72 type aircraft, construction of a new terminal building and a fire station-cum-ATC tower.

The Teju Airport was operationalised in 2018 under the Centre’s UDAN scheme. This domestic airport located in the town of Tezu operates through a single runway. The airport is developed on 212 acres of land, and is capable of handling operations for ATR72-type aircraft. It is currently connected to Dibrugarh, Imphal and Guwahati through regular scheduled flights by Alliance Air and Flybig Airline.
