Navi Mumbai Metro objective

Navi Mumbai, built as a satellite city for Mumbai, has developed by leaps and bounds in the last decade. Today, each and every node, both, old and newer ones, that are opening up in Navi Mumbai, are being developed strategically with focus on providing the people with state-of-the-art social and physical infrastructure. For example, Navi Mumbai is home to India’s first and largest transit-oriented development (TOD) at Seawoods Darave. The next milestone to be achieved by this satellite city is operations of the Navi Mumbai Metro (NMM), which promises excellent connectivity to its different nodes.

Navi Mumbai Metro is a mass rapid transit system constructed by CIDCO with line 1 to be made operational early part of 2023. To ease the pressure on the railway network and the growing traffic on the road, there was a need to introduce a new mode of public transport that would establish connectivity to all Navi Mumbai residential nodes. As a result, the Navi Mumbai metro was designed with five lines, covering a distance of 106.4 kms. Navi Mumbai Metro is not only an important transportation need for the smart city, it will also boost the city’s economic growth.
