Bhubaneshwar Metro Rail Project

The much anticipated Bhubaneshwar metro rail project will now see the light of the day. The chief minister of Orissa announced the project making it one of the first Odisha metro projects. The planning for the Bhubaneshwar metro was entrusted to DMRC (Delhi Metro Rail Corporation) who have now submitted their reports to the authorities. The project is expected to cost Rs 5,000 crore and will cover 20 stations in its initial phase.

Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project’s latest updates

The Bhubaneshwar metro rail project was sanctioned on Orissa Day by Odisha CM, Naveen Patnaik in April this year. The project will be 26 km and will be governed under the 5T (technology, transparency, teamwork, transformative, and time limit) model. Post this announcement, the state government shared that the detailed project report for the Bhubaneshwar metro will be prepared by DMRC. Since then, the DMRC started conducting soil surveys. The complete report was submitted to BMRLC.

As per reports, the BMRLC will commence the construction work for the Bhubaneshwar Metro Rail Project in December 2023. The Bhubaneshwar Metro will connect Trishulia, Cuttack to Bhubaneshwar. In the later phases, this line will also be extended to Puri, Khurda etc.

Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project proposed stations

The BMRC has announced that Bhubaneswar Metro will be covering only 20 metro stations during its initial launch. The major stations that the Bhubaneshwar metro rail project will cover are Biju Patnaik Airport, the District center, Sishu Bhawan, etc.

Real estate impact of Bhubaneswar Metro Rail project

The Bhubaneshwar Metro Rail Project will connect several prime locations of the city. Additionally, it is expected to increase the connectivity between Cuttack and Bhubaneshwar and cut the total travel time. The major locations that the Bhubaneshwar metro will cover are Bhubaneshwar Railway Station, KIIT Square, Nandankanana Zoological Park, etc. With the launch of the state’s first metro project, the real estate sector is also going to see a steep rise. It is expected that property prices in the state will see a jump of at least 25 to 30% in the coming days.
